DON'T GET TOO EXCITED

07-Oct 06:37, by Ketts

Charllton fans will be eagerly anticipating next month's trip to leaders Shrewsbury but.....

A blank Saturday for Charlton fans as the scheduled game with Peterborough at The Valley has been called off due to international call ups.

Karl Robinson is a manager who would rather play games than risk a future fixture pile up. But with the loss of Jay Dasilva, Ezri Konsa and Josh Magennis, plus a number of injuries, it was the sensible decision to ‎cancel the match.

The game will now be played at the end of November, a month that could see the Addicks play as many as nine games, which perfectly illustrates the manager's concerns.

Charlton have no real deputy for Josh Magennis and are looking at the free agents market. There has been speculation that Leon Best is a possible arrival, but whether he has the necessary fitness levels to slot straight into the team remains a major doubt.

Robinson will oversee an internal practice game at Sparrows Lane on Saturday, and it is possible that he may take the opportunity to look at a trialist or two.

The surprise package of League One this season has been runaway leaders Shrewsbury. Clear at the top, the Shrews are having the kind of season that their fans could only have dreamt about.

The Addicks are due to lock horns with Shrewsbury at the Montgomery Waters Meadow on 11 November.

However, that is the weekend of the next international break, and it would be a surprise if Robinson opted to play the game with a weakened team.
