WIMBLE-DONE CHARLTON

03-Dec 22:12, by Ketts

Charlton crashed out of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Charlton had a difficult start to the day. They only arrived at Kingsmeadow ‎an hour before kick-off due to a serious accident on the A3.

Karl Robinson named just six substitutes, and he then lost Joe Dodoo to injury during the warm up.

And things did not improve for the Addicks as the afternoon progressed. They crashed out of the FA Cup, losing 3-1‎ to AFC Wimbledon.

Robinson fielded a strong team with Karlan Ahearne-Grant, Joe Aribo and Arnfernee Dijksteel coming in and having decent games.

Ezri Konsa and Naby Sarr are good defenders, but as a pair, they struggle. They both need a talker - like Patrick Bauer or Jason Pearce - playing next to them.‎

Konsa's dithering allowed Cody Mcdonald to nip in and give the Wombles an early lead. ‎

Ahearne-Grant cancelled Wimbledon's advantage midway through the half when he slotted home Mark Marshall's driven cross at the far post. ‎

‎Charlton started the second period brightly and George Long had to make a stunning save to keep a Jay Dasilva effort out.

The keeper tipped Dasilva's shot onto the bar, but the ball fell nicely for Josh Magennis. The Ulsterman should have scored but skied his shot over tha bar.‎

Konsa and Sarr could not cope with Greenwich born striker, Lyle‎ Taylor, and the Montserrat international won the game for Wimbledon with two strikes.

After 70 minutes, Mcdonald robbed Sarr and pulled the ball back for Taylor to guide home.

The Dons sealed victory 11 minutes later when Dijksteel was harshly adjudged to have fouled Andy Barcham in the area. Taylor stroked home the resulting penalty.

There was a late cameo appearance by long time injury victim Harry Lennon, and there are reports that MK Dons defender, Dean Lewington, is training with the Addicks.‎

In time honoured tradition, Charlton can now concentrate on the league.‎
