THE HARD FACTS

03-Jan 04:57, by Ketts

Charlton need to turn their form around quickly if they are to make the end of season play-offs.

Charlton face a real fight if they are to make the end of season play-offs. Their run of eight games without a win has seen them slump to ninth in the table, ‎17 points behind second place Shrewsbury and 11 points adrift of Bradford in fifth.‎

Only sixth place Portsmouth are within easy reach. Pompey are four points ahead of the Addicks, but the south Londoners have a game in hand, albeit away to Shrewsbury.

Millwall finished sixth last season with 73 points, and a team normally needs around 72 - 75 points for a top six finish.‎

Charlton have 37 from 25 games, an average of just under 1.5 points per game. Karl Robinson's side do not need to improve much to reach their goal, but the problem is their wretched current form.

Tha Addicks have drawn three and lost five of their last eight games. Friday's goalless draw at Wigan was the only clean sheet they have kept  in their last ‎15 games.

They beat Saturday's visitors, Oldham, 4-3 at Boundary Park back in early September. They have scored more than two goals in the 21 league games they have played since then, just once.

Charlton beat AFC Wimbledon 1-0 at The Valley in October, that was the last time they kept a clean sheet at home.

So Robinson's side have a real problem if they are to string a series of results together - they are a low scoring side that usually concede goals.‎

The Addicks have five game still to play in January - Oldham and Walsall at The Valley, and trips to Bury, Shrewsbury and Blackpool. ‎

‎To build momentum they need to take maximum points from their home games, and record their first away win since October.

‎January really is make or break time at The Valley.
