ON CLOUD NINE

11-Jan 05:58, by Ketts

The Addicks have the opportunity to harvest a rich haul of points this month.

Shrewsbury's 4-2 win over Blackpool in the Checkatrade Trophy on Wednesday means that Charlton's trip to Shropshire on 23 January will now have to be rearranged.

This leaves the Addicks with just three more games to‎ play this month, Walsall's trip to The Valley next Saturday is sandwiched between trips to Bury this week, and Blackpool on the last Saturday of the month.

Despite the plethora of injuries, this is a golden opportunity for Charlton to pick up nine valuable points.‎

Bury are rock bottom and have only won four games all season, despite investing quite heavily in their squad.

They lost 3-0 to Woking in the FA Cup at Gigg Lane, and have lost four of their last six home games in the league.

Surprisingly, the Shakers won the other two - against Bradford and Shrewsbury. Perhaps they are a team that raises their performance against the better sides.

The Addicks ‎have not won on the road since beating Bradford in October, but they must fancy their chances of ending that run on Saturday.

Walsall are hovering just above the drop zone, but they have a reasonable record on their travels. The Saddlers have picked up maximum points on trips to Oxford, Doncaster and AFC Wimbledon.‎
  ‎
‎Nevertheless, the Addicks should fancy their chances of beating anyone at The Valley, and will be confident of winning the game.

Blackpool are a club who have had more than their fair share of problems, so it was good to see them bounce back to League One at the end of last season.

They have made a solid start on their return to the Third Tier and are comfortably ensconced in mid-table.

The Seasiders do not have the best home record though, they have not won at Bloomfield Road since mid-October.

Charlton have a reasonable record on their visits to the Fylde Coast and will be hopeful of another win.

Robinson was expecting to have a full squad to choose from by the middle of this month, but clearly will not be the case.

Despite that, the Addicks should have enough talent available to make a nine point haul a realistic possibility.‎
