STRIKER DEPARTS

30-Jan 13:14, by Ketts

Karlan Ahearne-Grant has joined Crawley on loan.

Karlan Ahearne-Grant has joined League Two outfit Crawley for the rest of the season.‎

The 20-year-old has made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Addicks this season, though he has only made four starts in the league.

Ahearne-Grant netted the late equaliser against Peterborough at The Valley in November, and has scored Checkatrade Trophy goals against Swansea and Oxford, and he got Charlton's goal at AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup.

He has been in good form recently, but with Mark Marshall, Sullay Kaikai, Tariqe Fosu, Michal Zyro and Stephy Mavididi available, Ahearne-Grant may have struggled‎ to get minutes on the pitch.

He will learn some valuable lessons from Harry Kewell‎ while at Crawley. The experience of first team football will aid his development, and he will want to be pressing for a starting berth at The Valley next season.

Karl Robinson had this to say about Ahearne-Grant's move:‎

"Karlan has really moved mountains this season, he has worked so hard and I think are fans are beginning to see that on the pitch.

"I sometimes have to be a bit unselfish, though, and look after him and that is the reason for letting him go out on loan.

"I rate him so much, I really believe that he is the future of the club and that is why I think it is so important for him to go and play regularly.‎

"Karlan is going to go and player under Harry, who was a top, top player and someone that Lee Bowyer and I have a good relationship with.

"Crawley are a side that are full of confidence and I think he can make a big difference to them."‎

‎‎Meanwhile, the game at Blackpool has been rearranged for Tuesday 13 March with a 7.45pm kick-off.
